Rockford’s own Fred VanVleet is in the Top 10 for fan voting for Eastern Conference guards in this year’s NBA All-Star game, and this week he got support from a cinematic super hero.
Simu Liu, a Canadian actor best known for his role in “Shang-Chi” in the Marvel series, tweeted on Monday: “Casting my #NBAAllStar ballot for @FredVanVleet because he is playing god-tier basketball right now”

The starters for the All-Star Game will be announced on Jan. 27 with the reserves revealed on Feb. 3.
Fan votes make up 50% of the total vote to determine the game’s starters, with players and media members making up the other half. After the second batch of fan vote totals was released last week, VanVleet ranked eighth among Eastern Conference guards. The next batch of vote totals will be released Thursday.
