    ROCKFORD — There are plenty of things to do in the Rockford area this week, ranging from comedy and poetry to murder-mystery dinner and classic rock.

    This week includes the return of the Rockford Indie Bookstore Crawl, a Led Zeppelin tribute band, a pair of Black History Month performances and the first Fight or Flight Classic.

    Indie Bookstore Crawl

    About: Rockford’s five independent bookstores join forces for the second annual Rockford Indie Bookstore Crawl, which offers deals and prizes at each of the local shops.

    When: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24

    Headshot Happy Hour

    About: Catalyst Design & Photography is partnering with Ernie’s Midtown Pub for Headshot Happy Hour, a way to get your professional headshot in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Book for $75 in advance to get one high-resolution head shot and a $10 bar tab, a value of $185. Book by Feb. 20 to lock in the rate. It’s $100 day of the event.

    Black History Month celebration

    About: The Rockford NAACP will host a Black History Month celebration that showcases youth and teen talent, including performances from Rockford’s official youth poet Trinity Rucker and Auburn High School vocalist Kristina Puzin. The show will include dance, music, poetry and other performing arts.

    When: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22

    Rockford Home Show

    About: The 43rd annual Rockford Home Show allows you to explore new products, concepts, services and other interior and exterior design ideas with various home-improvement experts. There is also entertainment for kids, including magic, balloon-twisting and kids gardening projects, and a wildlife stage show with Hoo Haven.

    Fight or Flight Classic

    About: The inaugural Fight or Flight Classic features 12 USA Boxing amateur bouts including Golden Gloves and national champions. The event is put on by Plus Seven Co. and Jimmy Goodman of Rockford Patriots Boxing Club. They also put on the annual Rockford Boxing Classic.

    Performance Art and Black History

    About: Cafe RPL will host an evening of performance art and Black History called “If You Don’t Know, Now you Know.” The event was created by local photographer, poet and musician Xen Kingsley. Participating artists include Fligh Jones, Jay Church, Cameron Harris, Nicholas Barelli, Goddess Warrior Poet, Timo Smooth, Tiffany Love, Kelvin Candie and Dame Grant.
