ROCKFORD — A new day spa designed to help you relax, rejuvenate and find peace is set to open today in downtown.
Juluxxe Beauty, 1001 E. Jefferson St., will celebrate its grand opening and ribbon cutting at 5 p.m. Friday. The business is owned by licensed cosmetologist Juana Maria Martinez, who specializes in gua sha facials and other personal care including pedicures, facial waxing, hair treatments and colors.

Martinez, who goes by Jo, said the spa’s slogan is “the vibration your persona needs.”
“I love doing facials and I feel like I can give a person peace just by them being there,” Martinez said. “I think that makes a difference in a person’s life.”
Martinez also works as a secretary at Barbour Language Academy in Rockford, and the spa will operate with late afternoon and evening hours by appointment to start.
Juluxxe is also offering booth rentals for other personal care professionals at rates of $30 per day, $150 per week or $400 per month.
Martinez is a native of Los Angeles who moved to Rockford in 2006 and graduated from Jefferson High School. The mother of two, ages 15 and 9, gave thanks to her own parents for helping her pursue her vision of owning her own business.

She said family members helped renovate the space, and she financed the purchase with a loan from her father and her personal savings and other debt.
Now, she’ll focus on growing her business by giving clients peace and relaxation.
“Juluxxe represents the version of myself that I’m discovering every day and my business gives me the empowerment to help provide a service for others,” she said.
