Hey! It’s Lisa, the Busy af Mom. I also happen to be a single mom. My 15 year old daughter’s dad is super involved and extremely helpful but he lives 90 minutes away so can’t always offer help in person. Point being, I really don’t have much free time between work, being my daughter’s Uber, keeping my house in order, etc. For many years I put dating off because I just didn’t think I had the time. But then I met a wonderful man and had no choice but to make time. And believe it or not, we manage to see eachother multiple times a week. It’s not always easy, but with the right approach and mindset, it can be a wonderful experience.

Here are some tips to help you navigate the dating world as a single mom:

    1. Prioritize self-care: As a single mom, it’s important to take care of yourself first. Make sure you have a support system in place, take time for yourself, and engage in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. When you prioritize self-care, you’ll be in a better position to date and build a healthy relationship.

    2. Be upfront about your situation: When you start dating someone new, it’s important to be honest about being a single mom. Let them know about your children and your responsibilities. This will help you filter out people who may not be ready or willing to be in a relationship with a single parent.

    3. Take it slow: It’s important to take things slow when dating as a single mom. Focus on building a strong foundation and getting to know the person before introducing them to your children. This will help ensure that you’re making the right decision for both yourself and your children.

    4. Choose the right partner: When dating as a single mom, it’s crucial to choose a partner who is understanding, supportive, and willing to embrace your role as a parent Look for someone who respects your boundaries, is patient, and shows genuine interest in your children.

    5. Involve your children at the right time: When you feel ready to introduce your children your partner, make sure it’s at the right time and in a comfortable setting. Talk to your children beforehand and gauge their feelings about meeting someone new. It’s important to prioritize their well-being and ensure they feel comfortable and safe.

    6. Communicate openly: Effective communication is key in any relationship, especially when you’re a single mom. Be open and honest about your needs, expectations, and concerns. It’s important to find a partner who is willing to listen, understand, and support you in your role as a parent.

    7. Trust your instincts: As a single mom, you have a strong intuition when it comes to making decisions for yourself and your children. Trust your instincts and don’t settle for anything less than what you deserve. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to walk away and continue your search for a compatible partner.

Remember, dating as a single mom can be a balancing act, but it’s important to prioritize your own happiness and well-being. Take your time, trust the process, and don’t be afraid to seek support from friends, family, or a therapist if needed.
