ROCKFORD — The city’s downtown fills with Halloween spirit on Saturday as about 35 businesses open for trick-or-treaters and shopping specials.

The annual Spook the Blocks event is put on by the River District Association and Rockford Art Deli. It runs from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday all throughout downtown, as well as a stop in Midtown.

“Whenever we can throw a party and invite our community to downtown Rockford to have fun while supporting local businesses, we’re all in,” River District Board President John Groh said in a news release.  “Spook the Blocks is a family-friendly event where kids (and adults) can dress up, trick or treat at locally owned businesses and maybe stop into a restaurant to enjoy a good meal or hot beverage or take advantage of a great deal or special at a new store. It’s a fun event that attracts families to the River District. We look forward to seeing the community dress up and have fun in downtown.”

The event also coincides with Rockford Art Deli’s free print day, when you can bring in a blank T-shirt and get an exclusive graphic printed on it.
