ROCKFORD — An Auburn High School graduate’s winning run on “Jeopardy!” came to a close on Thursday after he finished second on his third day on America’s favorite quiz show.

Lloyd Sy earned $53,578 by winning on two consecutive shows this week. In the first, he unseated “Jeopardy!” super champion Ray Lalonde, who had won on 13-straight shows and amassed $354,300 in winnings. That’s the 12th most all-time, according to “Jeopardy!” data.

Sy, who was Auburn’s Class of 2012 valedictorian, answered correctly 88% of the time during his two-day winning run, according to “Jeopardy!” data.

He was competitive again on Thursday’s show, which was recorded in November, answering 20 questions correctly and missing on four, according to a count from thejeopardyfan.com. He finished with $13,800 on Thursday, which was second to winner Patrick Curran’s $30,000.

He had his best chance to take the lead during Double Jeopardy, but lost $3,000 on a question about the Rubicon River.

The 28-year-old is home for winter break amid his pursuit of a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

He said he’s enjoyed the attention from his winning run on the show, but he doesn’t feel the need to prove himself any further with friends who may want to test his knowledge or even recruit him to their pub quiz teams.

“I feel like two days on ‘Jeopardy!’ was enough proving myself,” he said. “I feel very secure.”
