    Owner: Alaina Moore

    1. Tell us about yourself and your business:

My name is Alaina Moore I am a licensed vet tech in the local Rockford area. My passion for animals has existed ever since I can remember. I love educating my clients on things that may strengthen their animal human bond.

    2. What inspired you to start your business?

Honestly I started this as a side business to just help out friends and family and make extra cash on the side. But I quickly realized finding trustworthy and responsible people to care for your pets while you’re away has become very difficult I have experienced myself for my own vacations. The demand is there for those fur babies where kennels and boarding can’t be an option because they may be dog reactive or it just may be too stressful/traumatizing. Being able to stay in the comfort of their home and being able to somewhat be close to their schedule is something that is really awesome. Because those timid animals come out of their shells so much faster and it’s really cool to see.

    3. What’s it like being a female business owner here in the stateline?

Honestly steering through this business world with no prior experience and guiding myself through it, is kind of intimidating. But it’s something I’m very passionate about and I love being able to be there for my clients and know if they leave town their pets are in good hands. Also offering that education aspect to it and offering advice.

    4. What advice would you give to a woman wanting to start her own business?

    Just go for it!

    5. Who or what has been your biggest support system as a female business owner in the community?

My biggest support system would have to be my family, my amazing boyfriend, and my animals. They really get me through the hard days and keep me grounded. Sometimes you need a reality check to be like hey take a breath everything will work out.

    6. What are the biggest challenges/advantages to being a female business owner?

Biggest advantages for me was honestly more freedom to choose my schedule and cut my hours back working a 9-5. I love working with animals but this way I still get to be outside taking clients pets on walks enjoying the nice weather. If I feel I’m becoming burnt out being able to manage my schedule and say hey I’m gonna take this day as self care. To have more financial freedom and to make my own rules. The pride in creating something so awesome and seeing the support from your clients and family/friends. Some challenges for me are honestly managing my stress and learning to have a work life balance. I want to be there for all my clients but sometimes I find myself pouring from an empty cup.
