ROCKFORD —  United Way of Rock River Valley has hired Cornell Bondurant to serve as its new director of community impact.

Bondurant, who was most recently dean of noncredit programs at Rock Valley College, will lead the nonprofit’s efforts in growing strategic initiatives aimed at improving lives in the community. That includes overseeing and developing the Move the Middle, literacy and 211 initiatives.

“We are thrilled to have Cornell join our United Way team,” Julie Bosma, president and CEO of United Way of Rock River Valley, said in a news release. “His experience across the human services and educational fields makes him the perfect person to oversee our growing collective impact initiatives that serve our community. We are so grateful to have him.”

Bondurant, who is marred and a father of two children, was born and raised in Rockford. He earned his bachelor’s degree in social work from Western Illinois University and a master’s degree in social work from University of Illinois-Chicago before returning home.

“I am honored to take on this new role as director of community impact,” Bondurant said in a news release. “I’m looking forward to developing and expanding these already impactful initiatives — continuing to bring support and encouragement to this incredible community.”
