    LOVES PARK — Loves Park and Machesney Park plan to kick off holiday festivities this weekend with their annual parade, fireworks and tree-lighting ceremony.

    The 25th Light Up the Parks Holiday Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting will take place on Sunday beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Loves Park City Hall, 100 Heart Blvd.

    “We are excited to again host these cherished holiday events and offer families new, exciting festivities to commence the holiday season,” said Loves Park Mayor Greg Jury.

    The parade will begin at 4:45 p.m. at Loves Park City Hall, cross over to Elm Avenue, turn west on Roosevelt Road, cross North Second Street and conclude at the Machesney Town Center, 8750 N. Second St.

    After the parade, the 30-foot Christmas tree will be lit at the Town Center, where kids can also visit with Santa.

    “We invite members of the community from all around the Rockford-area to join us for these events to celebrate the joy of the holidays,” Machesney Park Mayor Steve Johnson said.
