ROCKFORD — The Rockford Park District is preparing to replace a 23-year-old playground at Oxford Park, and it wants you to help pick the design.

The district is conducting an online survey to ask residents to select the final design for the future playground at 2420 Oxford St.

“As one of the most heavily utilized playgrounds in the Rockford Park District, it’s next on the list to be renovated,” Laura Gibbs-Green, the district’s communications manager, said in an email to the Rock River Current. “There are no immediate dangers, but the playground was installed in 1999 so it is well beyond its useful lifecycle.”

The survey runs through Sunday. This is the second round of surveys the district has conducted while preparing to revamp the park. The first received 194 responses and helped select elements for the playground design.

The park district has budgeted $165,000 for the new playground and plans to complete the remodel by next summer.

Mady Ticknor, who was at the Park Thursday with her son, Bert, hopes to see additions for smaller children at the playground.

“I feel like this is a little bit too old,” Ticknor said. “It’s 5 to 12, so maybe something for like a 2 to 5 range.”
