ROCKFORD — The city’s Health and Human Services Department, in conjunction with the Northern Illinois Homeless Coalition, is accepting grant applications for federal funding for nonprofits working to rehouse homeless people, families, people fleeing domestic violence and youth.

    The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Continuum of Care competitive grant program is for Dekalb, Winnebago and Boone counties.

    An estimated $2,191,671 in funding is available for funding renewals, $134,987 for bonus projects and $404,961 for domestic violence bonus projects.

    Applicants must have access to eSnaps, the system utilized by HUD to prioritize project applications, in order to complete a project request.

    The Continuum of Care will prioritize domestic violence projects that offer permanent housing placements.

    Application and eSnaps training (for new and renewal applicants) and public hearings on the application process will be held at 612 N. Church St., Rockford, at 4 p.m. Sept. 27 and 9 a.m. Sept. 29.

    New and renewal applications will be due by 5 p.m. Oct. 14 at 612 N. Church Street, Rockford.  The final consolidated grant application is due to HUD on Nov. 16.
