While some people are not paying attention to the warnings of coronavirus, others have no choice but to continue on with their daily routine. This not only includes our emergency, safety, and medical personal but many others as well.

In an effort to keep the COVID-19 outbreak under control and our community clean, Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara announced that the city plans on installing portable handwashing stations. These stations will be for anyone to use but are targeted toward the homeless.

In a city of over 150,000 people, there are more than 700 homeless in the 815. These are people from every demographic.  During this time, we need to keep in mind the people who are not as privileged as a lot of us. Take a second to be grateful for everything that you have right now. Roof over your head, clean and running water, food in your fridge, warm and fresh sheets…because the things you may have, some people do not.

Fortunately, there is a way you can help your community and those affected most. Rockford Rescue Mission is in urgent need of items right now. You can either drop them off at 715 West State Street in Rockford or simply donate a few dollars on their website to help their team make purchases like medicine, PJ’s, and anything else that is essential in this time of need.

To donate and to see the full list of items needed, please visit their website. Anything helps!
